Why Choose the Critical Skills Permit?
Unlike a General Employment Permit, the Critical Skills Permit is highly sought after because it offers the fastest and most flexible pathway to settling in Europe.
Fast-Track PR
Holders can apply for a Stamp 4 (Permanent Residency equivalent) after just 2 years of employment, instead of the usual 5 years.
Spouse Work Rights
Immediate family reunification is allowed, and spouses can apply for a permit to work freely in any job across Ireland.
No Labour Market Test
Employers do not need to prove they couldn't find an Irish/EEA citizen for the job, making the hiring process much faster.
Eligibility Criteria
There are two main ways to qualify for this permit, entirely dependent on your salary and profession.
Category 1: Salary over €38,000
If your job is explicitly listed on the Critical Skills Occupations List (such as IT professionals, engineers, scientists, nurses, and medical practitioners), you only need a minimum base salary of €38,000 per year and a relevant degree.
Category 2: Salary over €64,000
If your job is NOT on the Critical Skills list (but is also not on the Ineligible list), you can still get this permit if your base salary is at least €64,000 per year. You must possess a degree or substantial relevant experience.
Application Process
- Secure a Job Offer: You must have an employment contract from a company registered with the Revenue Commissioners in Ireland, valid for at least 2 years.
- Online Application: Applications are submitted online via the Employment Permits Online System (EPOS). Either you or your employer can submit it.
- Processing: Most applications are processed within 3 to 6 weeks.
- Entry Visa: If you are from India or another visa-required country, you must apply for an entry visa AFTER your permit is approved before traveling to Ireland.
